Bio

Welcome. In the next few paragraphs I will attempt to convey a little bit about who I am and what I do. First things first, what I do for a living. I am currently working as a Video Editor for a Creative Digital Production & Post Production company called Steam Motion & Sound in Soho, London. I graduated from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK in 2006 with a Batchelor of Arts degree with honours. My chosen area of study was Music Technology & Innovation.

My specialised areas within Music Technology included digital audio production, studio engineering, sound design & image, creative composition and digital radio.

I currently live in London, but my home town is Bideford in North Devon.

Aside from my current work, I have also been on work placements with the BBC in central London working in the Audio & Music Interactive (A&Mi) department and also at Clear Cut Pictures Post Production facilities in west London.

Music & Graphic Design

I am passionate about music and am myself a musician, playing piano and drums as well as other percussion and keyboard instruments. I also compose my own music and have had experience of studio recording, live recording and mixing, producing and mastering. I also have plenty of experience in music performance as a solo musician and as part of an ensemble or band. My current and previous music projects include: Mendez (on Drums), Juke (keys and vocals), Sleeping is for Girls (Drums), and my own personal music project (self titled).

My experience with web design, html/JavaScript coding, Flash® and other graphic design tools has led to my involvement in web designing projects, most notably for holiday cottages, a local music promoter and for the local County Council. This led to further graphics projects, starting with flyers and web banners and leading to posters and brochures.See my portfolio for details.

More recently I produced some visual graphics for a feature length Pinball doumentary film entitled Special When Lit directed by Brett Sullivan and produced by Steam Motion & Sound.

Video Editing & VTR Operation

I work full-time as an editor for an international digital production/post-production and digital transfer company in Soho, London, specialising in the filming, production and post-production/distribution of TV commercials and other promotional content for bands, music artists, sporting events and musical theatre as well as documentaries, concerts and a few feature films.

In addition to my role as an FCP editor, my position also demands a responsibility for transferring, ingesting and the digitising / distribution of media, making dubs, mastering to tape, encoding videos, audio mixing, graphic editing, colour grading and machine room control and maintenance. 

Beyond the in-house roles my job entails, I also work on film locations on shoot days as camera assist, camera operator, digital imaging technician, sound recordist and production assistant.
